Since mid-March, Tracy and I have been going to dance lessons.
It's called Dance Sensation.
We learning (short) dance routines, like Saturday Night Fever, Everything from Michael Buble and Riverdance.
Last week, we did 3 dances in one night... a bit much, but oh so fun!
My favorite routine so far is the one we do on this song. Sorry, no demo. You'll have to ask me when you see me ;)

I had never heard of Randy Pausch until today, hopping from blog to blog. I read he was on Oprah, but that was only 10 minutes of this hour long lecture. It's good. I'm gonna watch it again and take notes. He is just THAT good. It is really inspiring. Let me know what you think if you watched it too.

I know I shouldn't post this... :) but I think a lot of it is true? What do you think?

1.) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they areright and you need to shut up.

Diana tagged me, so now I have to share 6 strange things about myself... Let's see...

1. I don't really like to eat bread. I only like it when it very fresh, not more than a day old. I don't make my lunch ahead, because I can't eat it when the butter and things have been on there for over an hour. Honestly, I just can't. My mom says I have been like that ever since I was a toddler...
2. I spend the time to actually make Christmas and birthday cards but then my procrastination gene kicks in and I fail to get them mailed off in time (or at all, in the last case).
3. I'm more into old songs then new ones. I'll take Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and 80's hits over any new song any day.
4. I'm a total movie nut. If time would allow me, I'd see more than 8 in a week. I've actually watched 3 movies back to back. And thinking of starting my own movie blog. Not sure if anyone would be interested though :)
5. I collect notebooks. I'm not sure why, I don't use most of them, but there are piles of them around the house.
6. I've been using the same 3 perfume scents for almost a decade now, I think. Everything else I've tried, started to smell like toilet cleaner to me after about an hour. Just recently I bought Burberry with some gift certicates I got. It smelled absolutely gorgeous! Until I was about a mile from the store and the bit she sprayed onto my hand started to smell like "WC Eend"... Took it back (luckily I didn't take of the plastic wrapper), exchanged it for Insolence, of which I had a little tester and had tried it for a few days a few weeks ago and it smelled wonderfull all those days. But again, about a mile away from the store... So from now on I'm sticking to Jean-Paul Gaultier, Jill Sander Sun, All About Eve (when I find it, cause it seems this one is going out of production!!!) and Escada (unbelievably something new I found about 2 years ago, unfortenately it's only available in the spring).
7. I'm allergic to lots of foodies and it's getting worse all the time. So far tomatoes and cooked eggs are my biggest problem. Strange thing is I can eat fried eggs with no problems at all. But tomatoes are really a big NO-NO... :( Ever tried to cook a surinam or indonesian festive meal without tomatoes? :( Oh well...

This was harder than I'd imagined!

High Tea

Femke, her mother Lot, my mom and I went on a mother-daughter high tea (name so by ourselves) last Sunday at Het Wapen van Marion in Oostvoorne. A bit too much sweet things, not enough savoury, but still very good and quite a lot! Oh, and they kept filling that cute little but leaking teapot again and again and again... a big plus in my book!

Finally we're done! Not sure if it's the lack of cold weather or just the blah's in general, but it took me awhile to get started this year.
When I came home after a lovely brunch at the home of my boss, the tree (it's a fake one...) was out of the box, standing in a corner of the living room. No more procrastinating for me, time to decorate! The best part of putting the tree up, don't you think? Maurice is the sweetest thing for doing the hard part of the job! Thanks, baby!

I've been thinking about bikes lately... It has been ages since I had one... And I would really love to go to the market and grocery store on a bike on Saturdays, since parking your car before 5pm at the shopping centre parking lot is almost impossible...

I really like green lately (seems like I'm compensating for the first 30 years of my life in which I hated green...):

But I really, really, really like green with a bit of pink!

So if I had between 400 and 450 euro to spend... which I don't... these would be my choices...

It will probably end up being this one from the HEMA though (179 euro right now on sale), looking very Nancy-like as well!

I still want to check out Marktplaats for some other (even cheaper) options! And I'm still contemplating on an orange bike since my first bike without training wheels on which I properly learned to bicycle was orange too...

Asian Glories...

That's the name of the restaurant we went to on Friday evening, for a belated birthday celebration for Martinette. I have never ever ever tasted better chinese food in my life and I've had quite a lot... Superb!

The evening started with champagne... And after about 4 sips, a lemonade for me ;)

This is as good as it gets with these two... I thought Maurice was evil to take pictures of, but they're just as bad... :)

On the left, my most favorite dimsums in the whole wide world: sieuw mai. Steamed please, not fried... But all the others we had were very very good too.

How we left almost every dish: very very empty :)

All the staff were very nice, very helpfull and helped made the night even more fabulous than it already was... Here she's preparing little pancakes with hoisin sauce and finely chopped cucumber and spring onions...

... so we can put these crispy pieces of duck on them, roll them up and try to enjoy them very slowly! :) Delicious!!

Nothing was wasted, from the left-over duck they made something with more hoisin sauce and vegetables and put that in some lettuce leaves, topped with sesame seeds. Gone in 60 seconds. :)

As you can see, I was thouroughly (sp?) enjoying every bite... In front of me you can see a cup of jasmine tea (several pots accompanied our entire dinner) and a plate of 'naaldbami', the best bami I ever had (and I'm not that into bami). It was handmade too and very good!

The specialty dessert of the evening was fresh Thai mango (so sweet!), accompanied by mango icecream (so good! lots of fruit and not too sweet!) and a bit of rice pudding made of sticky rice with palm sugar, I think, topped with salted coconut cream (which we didn't like, but we didn't know we shouldn't have eaten it separately, it should have been stirred through the pudding... oh well...).

I know there isn't really an english translation for the Dutch word 'gezellig' and I don't think there's one for 'nagenieten' as well... Let me know if you know a good one, so I can change this text! :)

And this is Jenny, the owner of the place, who took very very good care of us this evening. And no, I'm not drunk (I was the 'Bob'), but I was very full and very tired and in need of a nap! :) Definitely a night to remember, not only because of the fab food, but the fab company as well! Thanks for a lovely evening, Neppie, Robbie en Maribella!! And Jenny, of course!

Sad news...

A few months ago I wrote this entry on my blog.

Unfortunately I will never have these moments with my grandfather again...
He was hospitalized Tuesday morning, having trouble breathing. We learned later that he had a heart attack the night before and fluid in his longs.
This was more than his body could handle after all he'd been through the last 6 months or so...

At the age of 77, my grandfather died early Wednesday morning, surround by his wife, his children and me...

Although I think it may be for the best, considering his failing health, he is and always will be loved and missed.

I love you, opa.

* Sweet Home Alabama (Can't help it, I like Reese Witherspoon. And I thought this movie was funny. And Patrick Dempsey is always good to look at, even when he doesn't get the girl in the end!)
* Walk The Line (I know it's actually a biography of Johnny Cash. And it's drama. And it's about the music. But there is also a wonderful lovestory in there and that June Cash is such a strong character! I think the dvd is coming out soon? Me NEEDS it! :))

- Le Divorce (not bad enough to turn the dvd-player off, not good enough to recommend this to anyone. Fun to see differences between the Americans and the French, but this film lacks a story, logic and Kate Hudson with GOOD hair.)
- Kill Bill (just wanted to see this one again, a classic Tarantino movie. And I just like Uma...:))
- I, Robot (don't watch this right before going to bed. Not shockinly bad, not very good, but a pretty entertaining 115 minute Audi ad)
- The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (I unexpectedly totally got absorbed by the stories and almost couldn't stop crying near the end. Not a fun-fun movie, but I love how they've portraited the friendship between 4 very different girls who all have their own history... If you're going to watch this, don't forget your blankie, Kleenex, lots of tea and chocolate, you'll need them!)

It was WAY too much, but YUMMY!

I *heart* my iPod. (really, it's love...)

I get up with it. (and then give it a rest in its dock...)

I go to bed with it. (best sounds to fall asleep to aside from hearing Maurice - softly - snoring? ;) NPR's podcasts about books or movies or food)

I have been using mine each and every day (since I got last november)

I'd love to own an iH5 iPod dock alarm clock one day, so I can wake up with my own tunes (I really really really hate beeping noises and screaming dj's in the morning)...

Listening to the newest episodes from As The World Turns outside with the sun on your face is WAY better then watching 3 year old episodes, interupted by 3 commercial breaks that together as long as the episode itself. (it's kinda like an audio book... an audio 'Bouqet reeks' ;) You'll find the funniest things in Podcasts!)

I love have all my music in iTunes, making it so easy to find that one song that I want to hear and making some quite eclectic playlists... or being suprised by songs I forgot I had when I let iTunes shuffle-play the total library...

I know people think I'm weird for loving to iron (well, I don't dislike it anyway) and with my iPod on it's even better.

So if this would be real (and not another April Fools joke), it would SO be on my wishlist! (Although I'm not sure Maurice would appreciate my choice of ironing music ;))

On another note, people who I go to bars and clubs with know where I stuff my essentials when I'm wearing a pocket-less outfit. There is only so much that will fit into my boots and it'll hurt my feet when I dance. My motto: the bigger they are, the more you can stuff with them without anyone noticing. ;) If you did notice, please don't let me know. I'm really NOT taking a purse, I'm no "Annie, hou jij me tassie effe vast".

So if this bra was for real? Yep, on my wishlist too. ;) Funny, the jokers even thought about big-breasted women when they made the 'ad' for bust sizes A to F. But alas... another April Fools... *sigh* ;)

- the Wedding Date Only so-so... Debra Messing was a bit too neurotic for my liking (and I usually like neurotic people in movies!) and Dermot Mulroney wasn't acting, but just showing off his body. And a gorgeous body it is, but the movie was just too slow and not as funny as it should have been.
- In Good Company Imdb.com says comedy/drama/romance. I didn't think it was funny enough to put compedy first... it was more dramatic to me. But in a good way. I really like to look at Scarlett Johansson for some reason... it's not really her acting, because there isn't much change it from movie to movie... I guess not only men find her pleasing to the eye ;)

Speaking of lesbian feelings *wink* (see lazytracy's blog): I *heart* Lydia! That girl has the best set of hands in the universe - and knows how to use them. If I could afford it, on her massage table is where I would be every tuesday night... It amazes me every time how all the sore spots on my body just seem to vanish when she working on them... even though she works them pretty HARD and PAINFULLY! But it's all worth it, I feel GOOD again!

So, now I am free of pain and totally relaxed, off to bed I go! *Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr*

Where are my deep thoughts today? Has anyone seen them??

I've been with my grandparents today. This morning I drove them to the Daniel den Hoed hospital for a check-up for my grandfather. Still one month to go before they'll do new scans of his lungs to see how much of the cancer cells have disappeared. My grandfather is very optimistic, says he can't feel them anymore :) Throughout the whole ordeal (sp?) he kept his sense of humor. Love that man.

After lunch he felt so good that he went into the garden to pull some weeds and just be outside. All winter he had been either too sick or too weak to do anything outside of their home. Today I could see the lights twinkle in his eyes again when he put on 4 layers of clothes and his warm winter jacket. My grandmother wasn't too happy, but I think we both realize that the man lives to be outside. He has been cropped up in their home more in the last few months than in all of his 77 years, I think!

My grandmother and me looked out the back-window to watch my grandfather. For a moment it looked like nothing had happened... nothing was different... never had that frightening disease entered our lives... but then it all came back for me. I'm just so grateful he's still here with us... and enjoying every moment together, even if we're just sitting across each other at the dinner table, him browsing through 'De Kampioen' and me solving today's Sudoku in the newspaper...

I sensed my grandmother was still a bit worried about him being out there in the cold, so I suggested a little 'retail therapy' to take her mind of things. Hey, she may be well in her seventies too, but retail therapy works for all girls, all ages :) Especially when we're talking about cheap retail therapy ;)

So off we went to Hoogvliet, home of the region's Miss Etam/Promiss-outlet store. Walking up to the front, I noticed the store was quite crowded... entering the store it became clear it wasn't just crowded: there was a waiting line for the cash register that went almost ALL AROUND THE STORE!!! What the ...?! After some inspection I noticed there were little sale signs everywhere! 50% of the lowest price on the tag! Considering I liked the prices at this outlet already, I LOVED them now :)

Grandma and me did our round around the store, gathering all clothes we liked and that were available in our sizes, before we went for the fitting rooms (where it was surprisingly quiet). I don't like to go back and forth to get other/more cloths, but this time I could hardly carry my load... *blushing* It didn't all fit me or my style, but most of it was too good to pass up. So, over an hour in line and 47 euros later, I was the proud owner of 11 new garments (and one for my mom). For your information, grandma bought 2 t-shirts, but not the ones she tried on and when we came home they didn't fit like she liked them too, so I'm taking them back tommorrow...

But the spending (ok, MY spending) aside, it was just great to be with her for an afternoon. Just the two of us (and like it felt HUNDREDS of other women in that store...) talking and laughing and laughing and talking some more.

So no really deep thoughts today... But a lot of pink and fuzzy feelings about this quality time with my grandparents...

Ok, I know I give the impression with my blog title that I'm only into pink fuzzy thoughts... Well, most of the time I use those to block out other things that otherwise would keep my mind occupated all through the night. A girl needs her sleep, right?

But I keep thinking maybe I should share some of the deeper thoughts as well.. Wouldn't want my friends to think there's nothing more to me than eating and scrapbooking and having fun... :)

The last two weeks or so a certain subject seems to pop up more often than before, in conversations with several friends: why do we keep talking about things we think we really should put aside and don't bother with? Answer: because we can't. But live would be too simple if that was that.

I'm reading a lot of weblogs by scrapbookers and 'serious' artists, to find out they're not that different from you and me. Keri Smith, an illustrator from Toronto, wrote some words that have been in my head ever since I read them. I know she writes in light of her creative abilities, her creative state of mind, but even though we aren't all established artist, aren't we creating our lives?

"I've been looking for a way to start writing. An idea, a method, something poignant to say. How do I write something comforting, when I do not feel comfortable? Talking about creating and being creative seems frivolous right now, unnecessary. How do we even talk about something we have no way of understanding? I can talk about what I do know.

It is not what is said that matters, it is the act of writing and talking that helps us, heals us.

I have heard interviews with many writers suffering from what appears to be a "trauma induced writers block". Speechlessness. Paramaribo, 1964, mijn moeder was ongeveer 17 jaar oud...
Schoolfoto's had je toen nog niet, dus eens in de zoveel tijd ging mijn moeder met haar vriendinnen naar de fotograaf. Opgedirkt in mooie jurken en met wat zij noemt 'Farah Diba'-haar: zo hoog mogelijk opgestoken, naar voorbeeld van de vrouw van de Sjah van Perzië.

Deze layout heb ik alweer een tijd geleden gemaakt, maar ik blijf hem leuk vinden... ik heb nog een hoop oude foto's liggen, maar dit was eigenlijk mijn eerste 'heritage' project, waarbij het 'oude' papier ook echt bij de foto's paste...

Ik post deze layout omdat ik erg blij en dankbaar ben dat mijn moeder - zonder enige aarzeling - eigenlijk alle foto's in huis aan mij heeft overgedragen. Ik geloof dat ze zelf ook nog meer van de foto's geniet als ik ze gescrapt heb....

Gisteren heb ik nog wat oude foto's gered bij Opa en Oma thuis uit het oude album van Opa's onlangs overleden broer Henk. Opa was een album aan het leeghalen, omdat hij de personen op de foto's niet kende en niets met de afbeeldingen had... hoewel ik er natuurlijk ook niet bij was en de personen ook niet ken, zou ik ze niet weg kunnen doen en ik ben ook blij dat Oma wat foto's en memorabilia voor me 'gered' heeft... Er zitten prachtige plaatjes tussen van Curaçao in de jaren '50 en kiekjes van Henks 'road trip' van Montreal naar Niagara Falls.... het is jammer dat ik hem niet beter gekend heb, maar deze foto's zal ik trouw bewaren... {wordt vast wel vervolgd met een layout of miniboekje...hihi...}

I stated earlier that this blog would be about my creations... and I haven't posted anything in a few days. I have been scrapping though, but I need to scan the layouts and my scanner isn't installed at the moment. Will work on that soon.

So I looked on the harddrive of my laptop to see if there's an older scan on there somewhere... It was so typical: this one is the first one I bumped into and these people have been on my mind constantly for the last week or so... Coincidence? I don't know...

I made this layout over a year ago, it was actually published in a Dutch book on scrapbooking...

These are my grandparents on their 40th wedding anniversary. The titel says 'Diamonds', not because of their anniversary (I have been notified of the fact that I got it wrong... ha!), but because that's what they are to me: precious, invaluable, strong, shining...

Although we don't see each other as we would all love to, they are always in my heart.

Last week we got some news that totally shocked me and my family. I won't get into the details... I just wanted to share this layout with you and let you know what's on my mind... If anyone is reading this: please say a prayer for my grandad and wish him well? Thanks.

In case anyone wonders: the papers are Pebbles Inc. (green background), Design Originals (text) and ClubScrap (brown cardstock). Acrylic tags from Heidi Grace. I put stickers from Magenta on the back of the tags with Diamond Glaze. Letter stickers and 'negative' are from Creative Imaginations, the definition from Making Memories. Not sure where that clock sticker is from... I also used some chicken wire (really!), raffia and a camera charm.

I started this one 'just because'... just because I liked the blue... just because I had the beads... just because I took apart another necklace and had the charms...

But while I was working on it, the more I had to think about my friend and collegue Chantal... and I was done, I knew it would be the present for her! It matches her eyes and that fab suit she has! I'm very proud that she loves to wear it...

Ok, I have been debating with myself about this Blog thing for quite awhile now... Do I really have anything to say that people want to read on the net? I'm still not sure...

But it seems like everyone in the world has a Blog nowadays and I don't want to stay behind... Yep, I'm the following kind a girl...

So I decided this morning: perhaps I don't have very interesting things to say (but who knows, it might happen), I do like to share my crafty works! Not just to show off (in case you got that idea from the title, ha!), but to share inspiration and techniques and ideas... the reasons I read other people's blogs in the first place!

For the people who don't know me: sorry, you won't find my life story in this post :) I just want to make a start with this Blog and we'll see where it goes! I do want to share however that I'm first and foremost a scrapper. An addict, you'd might say... but still my first picture is of a new passion of mine: jewelry making. I did a course a few weeks ago and a whole new world opened up to me! I love how quickly ideas come together for a necklace or bracelet and I love how friends and family react when you've made something especially with them in mind...

This particular necklace I made for my mom's friend Lieke's birthday. Every time I see her she wears something green, so that was an obvious choice :) Since I learned using eye pins, that has been my favorite technique to use in jewelry making, it is almost as addictive as scrapping! :) To this point I have done quite a few necklaces and bracelets with this technique and everytime I try to add one or two extra beads. I like to hang them on the back of my neck, but you can also use them more like a pendant, at the front. I think this one turned out quite nice... but let me know what you think!
